We can’t wait to see you at #DESTRESSHF next week but in the meantime, here are a few tips to start the process! Don’t forget to stop by the front desk or call in to schedule your freebies for next week or pick up passes for your friends!
Meditate.
It can be a great way to relax, especially if you are under a lot of stress. Research has shown that meditation can be helpful in lowering heart rate and blood pressure, and even improving cognitive performance.
And meditation is pretty simple to do: HF Wellness Consultant Avra Blieden, LMT recommends finding a comfortable place to close your eyes, relax your muscles, and focus on one thing, whether it’s your breathing, an object (a flower, or a painting)-or even a picture in your mind. You can do this for as little as 5 minutes to experience benefits. Mindfulness is key – when you notice other thoughts entering your mind, gently bring your attention back to your breath or your focus object. That’s it!
If you’re free Thursday 9/28 at 1:30PM, join Avra for a special 45 minute class “Qi Gong & Acupressure”. Reserve your spot at the front desk!
Drink Green Tea.
It’s very soothing-it also contains theanine, an amino acid that gives it flavor and promotes relaxation. If green tea isn’t your thing, there’s nothing better than cozying up with your favorite mug and enjoying a cup of whatever tea tickles your fancy!
See Your BFF.
Friends aren’t just fun – studies have shown that your very closest ones can also reduce your production of cortisol. So call up your bestie, and let her know FRIENDS ARE FREE AT HF NEXT WEEK! Zumba followed by a trip to 25 North next door = guaranteed stress relief and lots of laughs.
Listen to your favorite song.
This is an easy one and can help eliminate the bad vibes in just a few minutes. This can be particularly beneficial when you’re getting ready for a tough day at work, in your car stuck in traffic, or if you’re lying in bed trying to free your mind of stressful thoughts. Give it a try!
Treat yourself to a Massage.
Getting a massage is an amazing way to free yourself of tension, anxiety, aches and pain. It can enhance your workouts, improve circulation, help you sleep better… the benefits associated with massage therapy are endless!
Momentum Massage will be at HF 9/25 + 9/29 for FREE CHAIR MASSAGE! Sign up at the front desk!
Take a hot bath.
Heat relaxes muscles-and taking a long bath can be soothing for the mind as well. Stock up on your favorite bath salts and soaps, get a bath pillow, and decorate the room with candles. Create your own relaxing spa-sesh at home.
OK, you knew this one was coming: WORKOUT.
Elle Woods from Legally Blonde once said… “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don’t shoot their husbands. They just don’t”. Seriously though, whether you choose to do yoga, go for a run, or set your alarm for that 5:30AM class, getting your body moving reduces stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. And yes, those endorphins will kick in and somehow life seems manageable again. Commit to stay consistent this fall… you’ll thank yourself later.
